Who knows the name of the movie about a boy needing heart surgery and the family being too poor to afford it?

Question by piffken: Who knows the name of the movie in this area a boy needing heart surgery and the family being too poor to meet the deprivation of it?
I thought it had either Denzel Washington or Samuel L Jackson playing the dad who holds a group of doctors hostage to force them to do the surgery on his son, because he can’t meet the deprivation of to pay for it? In the end, the dad is willing to donate his heart to be transferred.

How much (and how) do you tell young children about a family member’s heart disease and upcoming surgery?

Question by Bozz Mozz: How much (and how) do you tell young children in this area a family member’s heart disease and upcoming surgery?
I’m a excellent mom to an in tact family. The children are 9 and 6. Usually common sense parenting is a no brainer for me and I know what to include and what they don’t need to know based on age appropriateness. This is new territory and it’s an immediate family member, so I don’t want to exclude what they need to know, but to be too inclusive will only horrify them. How would you clarify open heart surgery to children that young?

Q&A: Seniors, is anybody going to watch the Barbara Walters special about heart surgery survivors tomorrow night?

Question by handypig: Seniors, is anyone going to watch the Barbara Walters special in this area heart surgery survivors tomorrow night?
She is interviewing well-known people who, like herself, have had open heart surgery, including Charlie Rose, Robin Williams, Regis Philbin and David Letterman. She points out that 1) 25 years ago these surgeries would not have even been painstaking and people in this affect up would just die and 2) heart disease is the digit one killer of older women, far exceeding breast cancer. I reckon it would be worth a look.
