For anyone who has heart disease you’ll probably already know that aspirin is known to help preclude the risk of a heart attack and to also increase the chances of extant if a heart attack strike. But how exactly is it that aspirin does to help?

Your body uses cells in the blood to encourage and prompt blood clotting. These cells are called platelets, and I suppose you can reckon of them as a ‘thickening agent’. What aspirin does is to slow these cells down, meaning that the blood does not clot as straightforwardly and consequently flows more freely. You’ve seen the platelets work yourself when you’ve had a cut. At first the blood flows from the cut quite quickly, but within a few seconds the blood flow slows and you start noticing that it coagulates and thus seals the cut to stop additional blood from leaving the body. But why is the slowing of platelets useful in a heart attack?

More evenly than not, a heart attack is caused by a rupture in a main artery carrying blood away from the heart to other parts of the body. When this happens the brain receives a thought that the body is injured and sends in the platelets. They then commence clotting the blood, which of course will make the heart attack worsen. If a name who is having a heart attack takes aspirin, the slowing of the platelets will slow the clotting, and will give more time for them to get the medical attention that they demand.

For those people who have heart disease or are at risk of heart attacks, aspirin dosage should always be kept in the home.
